Audible Inc. and James Patterson Entertainment have announced the star-studded line-up for three of their upcoming original series, Zero Tolerance, The Justice, and The Coldest Case season two. As revealed by Audible Inc., the leading creator and provider of premium audio storytelling, Zero Tolerance will star Academy Award winner Hilary Swank. Meanwhile, The Justice is all set to star Sanaa Lathan (Blade, Alien vs. Predator), and The Coldest Case season two will find Breaking Bad stars Aaron Paul and Krysten Ritter reprising their roles. Starting this August and continuing through 2024, all three scripted audio drama releases will be available exclusively on Audible.
According to its official synopsis, Zero Tolerance follows Swank as Sergeant Jo Barnes who, along with her elite, all-female U.S. Army investigative team are renowned for cracking complex sex crime cases within the military. Their latest mission takes them to the Mojave Desert at Fort Irwin Army Base in California, to unravel the mysterious disappearance of Private Nichelle Simmons — a soldier who accused a comrade of assault. But when the accused is inexplicably set free, their case takes a sinister turn.
As Jo, Maddie (Christine Ko), and Luna (Melonie Diaz) delve deeper, they encounter resistance at every turn. Facing a race against time, the trio is determined to uncover the truth at all costs, confronting dangerous adversaries who are capable of anything. You can check out the exclusive audio clip here.
Zero Tolerance has been co-written by Duane Swierczynski and is due to be released today, August 24, 2023. You can listen to the whole Zero Tolerance series at Audible.

Audible is continuing their James Patterson streak (most recently enjoyed in the Mary-Louise Parker series, Murder in Bermuda), with more titles after Zero Tolerance. The Justice, co-written by Aaron Cooley, and starring Sanaa Lathan, Susan Kelechi Watson, Luke Tennie, and a full cast, is a dramatic eight-part audio thriller from master storyteller James Patterson.
When Beth Garner is confirmed as the newest Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, she has seemingly achieved all her wildest dreams – most of it thanks to her mentor and hero, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Clayton Erlenborn. Little does she know, but Beth is about to be dragged into Clayton’s darkest secrets, and with them a web of murder and blackmail that could threaten to taint the Court’s biggest decision of the term, as well as destroy their careers, and maybe even their lives.
Lastly, The Coldest Case season two is co-written by Aaron Tracy and Ryan Silbert, and stars Aaron Paul and Krysten Ritter. The sequel unfolds over two distinct time periods. In the present, Billy (Aaron Paul) and Patti Harney (Krysten Ritter) are still deeply affected by their experiences from The Coldest Case, which they have trouble shaking off. The twins now investigate a bizarre series of seemingly-unrelated, gruesome murders, whose victims are all men in their 70s and 80s.
Meanwhile, four decades in the past, their father, Dan Harney, is tasked with a dangerous assignment. As a young officer, Dan and his closest friend, Goldie, escort a convicted drug dealer, James Julius, from Chicago to Los Angeles to testify at trial. On their journey, they get waylaid by violent, corrupt forces, culminating in bloodshed. Back in the present, Billy and Patti begin to realize that their strange investigation may tie back to difficult choices their father made all those years before.
“Our collaboration with James Patterson has allowed us to bring thrilling scripted audio-only content to an even bigger audience,” said Rachel Ghiazza, Chief Content Officer at Audible. “Together we’ve hit on a combination of elements that’s working for listeners: full-cast cinematic audio dramas centered around Patterson’s best-in-class storytelling. The revered acting talent in each project has elevated the listening experience to a blockbuster level. These next three Originals, which includes the return of our debut project, The Coldest Case for a second season, build on that successful track record and continue to fulfill the long-term vision we had for this relationship.”
Meanwhile, James Patterson had this to say about working with Audible:
"My creative collaboration with Audible has proven to be greatly satisfying, in no small part because they consistently support our projects with first-rate actors, directors, technicians and series launches. The opportunity to write and produce multiple original series each year in a different medium has been invigorating. I look forward to continuing our successful Audible Originals, which have proven to capture a passionate and widespread audience.”
The Justice is due to be released in early 2024, while The Coldest Case season two is expected to be released sometime in 2024. In the meantime, Zero Tolerance is available today.
