Because heat is being generated, it’s not abnormal for your charger to get a bit hot sometimes while charging. However, finding that your phone charger constantly gets hot while charging can become alarming and unnerving.

Using a charger not designed for your phone can cause your charger to heat up. Chargers built specifically for your phone are usually programmed to provide the exact amount of power required; incompatible chargers aren’t.
Using a charger with an output rating lower than your phone requires will overload the charger. Your phone will be drawing more power than the charger can handle.
